| The goal of spiritual warfare and spiritual
mapping is to clear the path so that Jesus and Jesus alone will be lifted up
such that He will draw all men to Himself. (Jn. 12:32 and Lk. 3:4-6) Joe Ozawa.
Our focus must always be on Jesus (Heb. 12:2). Church-planting, evangelism, signs and
wonders, battling spirits, or many other things we can devote ourselves to in the name of
Jesus may be important. However, devotion to Christ and obedience to Him is primary. This
is especially important as we talk about spiritual mapping where our focus can easily
become the evil one.
Spiritual mapping is an important way to find the enemys
strongholds in a city or among a people. There are three major ways to gather this data to
prepare for strategic praying:
1. Historical Research
 | Were
there any battles fought in this area?
|
 | Other
kinds of bloodshed? Death? Murders? Crimes?
|
 | Dishonest
acts by businesses, politicians, others?
|
 | Prejudices?
Slavery?
|
 | How
and when was the city established? (Any sacrifices done? Dedications to spirits? Was the
city won in a war? )
|
 | Any
sacred or treasured points in the city? Why are they sacred? Where do people
go for power?
|
 | Any
special symbols in the city? What do they mean? Flags? Crests? Symbols on money?
|
 | Any
other significant points in history?
|
 | Who
are the heads of government presently? Heads of schools? Pray for them daily.
|
 | What
kinds of names are in the city? What do they mean?
|
 | Are
there any statues?
|
 | Superstitions?
How did those superstitions come about?
|
 | Any
local art that might tell a piece of history or an attitude of the heart?
|
 | What
is the prevailing religion of these people? How did it enter this area?
|
 | What
pacts or covenants have been made?
|
 | Natural
disasters, such as famine, floods, locust infestation, etc.?
|
 | Prevalent
illnesses, diseases, or deformities?
|
Ask
locals, both Christians and non-Christians what their feelings are about the area they
live or the people group they are.
2. Observation: Walking the Land
 | Any
areas of poverty?
|
 | Crime
areas? Specifically, what crimes?
|
 | Prostitution?
Pornography? Homosexuality?
|
 | Where
are the businesses and what kinds of businesses are they?
|
 | Are
there any masonic temples? Other cultic gatherings? Where are they?
|
 | Buddhist,
Hindu, Islamic temples or other religious gathering places?
|
 | Schools?
|
 | Government
offices?
|
 | Christian
churches?
|
 | As
you walk, are there any places where you feel depressed or have difficulty in praying?
|
 | Are
there particular areas in the city where no one is coming to Christ?
|
 | Are
there areas of town with no churches or dying churches?
|
 | Are
there gates to the city? Ask God to show you how He wants to be proclaimed in the gates of
the city and in the heart gates of each person.
|
 | Seek
out high points, such as on top of a mountain or a building. These are excellent places to
pray and proclaim Gods word over the city.
|
 | Are
there any idols, poles, altars, sacred stones?
|
3. Divine Revelation
 | What
is God telling you to pray for?
|
 | Are
there scriptures He is giving you related to that city or people that you can proclaim?
|
 | What
promises is He giving you through His word, His voice, or signs along the path?
|
 | Is
God asking you to do some type of prophetic action?
|
 | Ask
God, what is the one thing blocking these people from coming to Christ?
|
 | Is
there repentence needed for the sins of the forefathers of this city or people? (Ex. 34:7)
|
 | Are
there places in the city that feel particularly dark or oppressive when you go there?
|
 | Ask
God to give you a vision of how He desires that city or people to be. Then seek out
prophetic acts you can do that counteract the evil that is in opposition to that vision
(such as feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, sharing Christs love in the red
light district, planting roses in an area where there has been much bloodshed, or whatever
else He leads you to do).
|
Five pressure points you might want to seek out in the
area you are prayerwalking:
 | Government
centers where legislation is made
|
 | Commercial
centers where decisions are made for who gets what goods
|
 | Educational
centers, especially the presidents office and teachers
|
 | Communication
centers, such as for media, TV, radio
|
 | Spiritual
centers, both Christian and non-Christian
